Editorial policy

Data first, neutral language

Facility pages present official data neutrally. We describe what CMS reports, for example “cited for 12 health deficiencies,” without speculation or accusations. Descriptive text on facility and area pages is generated automatically from the data, so every number can be traced to its source.

Guides

Guides are written from official sources such as Medicare.gov, CMS and federal regulations, which are linked at the end of each guide. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed. We review guides at least once a year and whenever rules change.

Use of AI

We don't use AI to invent facts. If an AI-assisted summary appears on a page, it is generated only from that page's data, automatically checked so every number matches the source, and labeled as AI-assisted.

Independence

Advertising and any business relationships never affect ratings, rankings or what data we show. Facilities cannot pay to change or remove information.

Corrections

If you think something is wrong, tell us. If we made the mistake, we fix it quickly. If the government's own record is wrong, the facility needs to contact CMS or its state survey agency, and our page will follow once the source is corrected.
